Numerous high schools and colleges/universities have recognized the need for financial education and have chosen to implement Financial Avenue. However, if you’re not really sure how to find time to squeeze Financial Avenue into your already packed class or you’re struggling to get students motivated to participate, check out these best practices, which are common to established programs around the country.

Financial Avenue is a curriculum-based, e-learning program, which was developed in accordance with the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Financial Literacy and Education Commission’s financial education core competencies, as well as the Jump$tart K-12 recommended guidelines (applicable to high schools) and the National Standards for Adult Financial Literacy Education. View the Learning Objectives handout to discover what each course covers.
Many states have predetermined standards for how personal finance, economics, or financial literacy will be delivered at the high school level. We have compared the Financial Avenue learning objectives against some of our partner states’ standards, providing you with a simple way to ensure you’re compliant with standards.
Students who are establishing a new Financial Avenue account starting April 2, 2016 will be asked to participate in a short survey related to their financial behaviors. The purpose of this behavioral assessment is to look at financial behaviors of students prior to completing Financial Avenue courses in order to gain a balanced perspective of baseline financial knowledge prior to the program. The responses will be kept anonymous and shared annually as part of Inceptia’s ongoing research program. Please see the Behavior Assessment Key for the list of questions students are asked.
Students are directed to this toolkit from their Smart Track landing page in order to learn more about financial aid, career readiness, preparing for college, New York-specific programs and more. Refer to this link anytime you need to see the resources and information available to all SUNY prospective and current students.
